In almost every aspect of life there is music. Sad and happy times. One can argue that through this pandemic music has been the one thing that most people have turned to for psychological relief. Music has been scientifically proven to have positive effects on the brain, facilitate stress relief, mood adjustment and also music brings us all together!
Musicians and artists are generally a group of generous and empathic individuals, they are also creative geniuses. COVID-19 has presented an unfortunate impact for all musicians in Saint Lucia. The closure of hotels, pubs, and clubs coupled with the cancellation of Jazz and Carnival have resulted in the unemployment of every artist and musician for at least 8 months as of March 2020. However, despite this time of zero income,
musicians and artists have been doing their part by rendering their services for many fund-raising events that have benefited our nurses, doctors, police, fire, other front-line workers and the country at large. Events held on Mother’s Day and other promotional activities have been made possible with performances from artists and musicians, all without compensation.
A Coalition of Music Industry Practitioners and Partners comprising the ECCO, Export Saint Lucia, the Cultural Development Foundation, AMMPS, Balance Inc. and a few industry practitioners, came together to determine ways of supporting the industry in this time. One of the projects being undertaken by this Coalition is a concert dubbed “STRONGER TOGETHER:Music For Life” featuring Saint Lucian artistes from various genres. This benefit concert is our bid as musicians, artistes and industry professionals to raise money and establish a fund for the industry that will act as financial aid in times of need now and in the future.
